Evaluation of patients after cerebrovascular attacks by self-sufficiency tests in a physiotherapeutic in-patient department

Abstract

Testing the patient´s condition before and after therapy is an essential part of evaluation of the effectiveness of therapy in remedial physiotherapy. In an investigated group of 127 patients after a cerebrovascular attack (CVA) treated in 1997 ? 2001 at the in-patient department of the Rehabilitation Clinic of the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové the authors assessed using the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) the extent of altered disability after treatment. The paired t-test proved a highly significant difference between the baseline and final examination.

Regression analysis revealed that the extent of change after treatment is associated with the baseline value of the FIM score. Testing the extent of disability of patients proves the importance of rehabilitation treatment of patients after CVA.
