The congress was devoted to the study of the civilisations in the area of the Black Sea and their relations to Central Europe, from ca. 1000 B.C. to 500 A.D. The individual sections were devoted to Thracians, Cimmerian, Scythians and the Hallstatt culture, to the Celtic relations with the Pontic area, top the Danube provionces of the Roman empire, to new excavations in the countries around the Black Sea, to the Great Migrations period and to the earliest Slavonic migrations.
