"The Gateway system". How does the police work contribute to the reproduction of social exclusion.

Abstract

The paper analyzes different mechanisms of the police work leading to the reproduction and strengthening of the social exclusion of people who are considered Roma on grounds of collective stereotypes and understanding of the particular situation in the studied locality in terms of ethnicity. These practices are not only the result of individual human failures but are partly the implication of the police system.
