This presentation of the 1st part of the catalogue of 17th and 18th century manuscripts in the collections of Czech museums contributes to defining the birth, reading and use of handwritten books on the Bohemian territory in the 17th and 18th centuries. The survey published by Karolinum in 2003 covers only about a third of the Czech territory, with 55 museums surveyed and 1493 manuscripts described.
Here are to be found statistics about the age, languages, themes, but also the status of such manuscripts (i.e. whether they are copies of printed works or original manuscripts).
