Abstract
The article describes types and genesisi of script. It compares phonetical systems of Greek and its Semitic counterpart, which used the "Vorlage" of the Greek alphabet.
The text evaluates the whole specialist discussion on the genesis of the Greek alphabet. It evaluates epigraphical as well as literary sources.
It builds an experimental argument for dating the genesis to the end of the 9th century BC. It localizes, on a detailed level, social role of literacy in Archaic Greece.
