Hemp (Canabis sativa L.)

Abstract

Cannabis is a annual, dioecious, flowering herb. History of using (and abusing) of different parts of the plant is very long.

In present time the plant is used for industrial purposes: fibre for textile products, paper, clothing, construction material, oil from seeds for production of biofuel, food and cosmetics products. Hemp is one of the fastest growing biomasses known and it can be used for recultivation of devastated landcape too.

Medical using is also object of research. Industrial hemp contains low content of psychoactive substance delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

For abusing in form of marijuana or hashish the subspecies of Cannabis sativa, var. indica is illegally grown.
