The chapter assesses the evolution of the two concepts: Frontiers and Identitities and their application to different fields of socio-cultural sciences, especially historiography. It is opening chapter of Crossing Frontiers, Resisting Identities, the fifth and final volume of an international research group comprises a reflection on its work over the past five years and proposals for future analyses.
The volume uses the binomial "Frontiers and Identities" as a heuristic tool for understanding the past and the present. It is a product of the Thematic Work Group 5 of the Network of Excellence CLIOHRES, supported by the European Commission through the Sixth Framework Programme of its Directorate General for Research.
