This paper presents work with children with dyslexia or children at risk of dyslexia who were treated in accordance with their cognitive style. More than thirty children were assessed via Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC), which – among other results – refers to a preferred cognitive style of the assessed children.
Results showed that most of the children did not tend to prefer any cognitive style. However, some of the assessed children preferred holistic cognitive style and only minimum of them significantly preferred sequential cognitive style.
The results were used to create a suitable treatment programme for the children who were then further treated at a special counselling centre for people with dyslexia. Results of the study are based on a case studies analysis which proved the necessity to adjust treatment of children with dyslexia to their specific styles and also showed the use of the assessment battery in connection with further work with the assessed children.
