Czechoslovak Church belonged among the new phenomena of the First Republic. Its formation reflected the moods of part of the new republic population, their need of existence, national features and new principles.
However, the hurried formation of this institution brought about a series of problems the Church had to deal with for years to follow. One of the crucial pitfalls was the institution’s financial base and obtaining a place of its own.
Such a place was supposed to serve not only sacral purposes but also other activities which would form the life of a new community. It was obtaining a place of its own that became the most serious and long-standing problem for Kolin’s religious community (CČS).
The community unlawfully used a small St.Jan’s Church which it claimed on moral basis; this only led to a tense relationship with local Catholic Church. As a result, CČS had to face many disputes.
