The article is dedicated to the issue of information seeking and information seeking behavior in the higher education (HE) area. It is divided into two main parts.
In the first (theoretical) part, basic terms and definition such as information, information seeking and other concepts are explained together with short overview of the research done in the information seeking so far; also, three basic models of information seeking (behavior) are described. In the second (more practically oriented) part all potential users in the HE area are classified according to their role and afterwards, their information needs are outlined.
In the last chapter, the issue of information systems in HE area is introduced taking into account the significance of this source for information needs satisfaction in the HE area.
