Abstract
Topoi of different stages of human life were used metaphorically in both commentary on art and national self-understanding. Related image of Aleš (1852-1913) is reconstructed mainly from his own symbolic presentations as well as from public pictorial hommages dedicated to him by the Czech modernists.
