Abstract

Mixed evidence exists concerning the side effects of oral contraceptives (OCs) on female sexual and mating behavior. The aim of our study was to test differences in sexual behavior, desire and levels of current promiscuous behavior among OC users and normally cycling women of different relationship and parity status on the basis of highly representative sample.

We analyzed the data of 1341 women (696 non users/ 645 pill users) aged 18-44 years obtained via quota sampling from the Czech National Survey of Sexual Behavior held in years 1993-2008. Results indicated that normally cycling women had a significantly higher number of one-night stands during last year in comparison to OC users.

This difference was most evident in coupled women - among NU the overall number of any sexual partners per year was significantly higher. OC usage was also shown to impact the frequency of dyadic intercourse, with coupled users reporting significantly higher frequencies.
