The dilatation characteristics of Ni3Ta shape memory alloy were studied before and after compression pre-deformation in the temperature range from RT up to 950oC. The allloy was prepared in the polycrystalline and in the single crystal form.
Relaxation of compression pre-deformation in the polycrystalline samples took place in the martensite, in the transformation temperature range and mostly in the austenite. Recovery process was connected with the elongation of the sample.
No recovery process was found in the single crystal. Compression pre-deformation increased positive TWSME in the polycrystalline material and decreased negative TWSME in the single crystal.
