The paper deals with the change of the status from a patrician to a plebeian, with aid of the well-known case of the transitio ad plebem of Publius Clodius Pulcher in 60 BC. General aspects of the reason for the status change to a plebeian are described, as well as the personality of Clodius, insofar as this information provides the necessary introduction to the main topic of this paper - the juridical form of the transitio ad plebem.
The study is based mainly on the following ancient sources - Cicero's letters to Atticus, Historiae Romanae of Cassius Dio, as well as the relevant fragments of Plutarchos, Velleius Paterculus and Suetonius.
